Lakers in Fourth Place After Sunday's First Round at W&J Invitational

Canonsburg, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's golf team currently holds fourth place after round one at the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Tournament Sunday, April 26, hosted by Washington & Jefferson College at Southpointe Golf Course in Canonsburg, Pa.

The Lakers are in a tightly-contested tournament, as two strokes separate third place from fifth. Washington & Jefferson's B team is in third place with a first-round total score of 326, one fewer than Mercyhurst, and two fewer than Penn-State Behrend, whose team is in fifth with 328 strokes. W&J's A team leads with 303 shots in Sunday's first round, followed by Lake Erie in second place with a score of 316.

Senior Tyler Bidwell led the Lakers with an opening-round 75. Freshman Derek Elliot shot an 80 on Sunday, while Garrett Kimple fired an 84. Matt Mahoney posted 88 strokes, and Derek Fisher carded a 93.

Joe Ribelli from Lake Erie College sits in first place after a first-round score of 73.

Monday's second round will tee off at 9 a.m. The Lakers will look to improve on their first round and move up in the standings. Following Monday's final round of the Rossin Tournament, Mercyhurst will finish its regular season Tuesday at the Gannon Invitational.
