NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team split its two games in the state of Connecticut on Saturday, defeating Connecticut College 13-9, before suffering a 17-9 setback to fifth-ranked Brown. The Lakers, who strung together 11-straight wins before falling to Brown, now stand at 12-3 on the season.

Kane Ashton and freshman
Luis Solis led the attack with five points apiece. Ashton scored four goals and added an assist while Solis marked two scores and three helpers. Freshman
William Page finished third in scoring with three goals and four points, followed by classmate
Ian Tasman with a goal and two assists.
The Lakers broke open a 2-2 game after the first with a 5-3 scoring advantage, ending the first half with a 7-5 lead. The scored ballooned to 10-6 in the third, before both teams closed out the game with three goals each in the fourth.
Suffering their first loss in over a month, Mercyhurst saw a 3-0 lead in the game against Brown quickly vanish. Brown answered back to tie the game at 4-4 before adding four more in the second, giving the CWPA-ranked Bears an 8-6 edge at the half. In the third, Brown held the Lakers to two goals again while adding five of its own to take a 13-8 edge into the finale. A 4-1 run in the fourth ended the game with the score at 17-9 in favor of Brown.

Alex Moggridge provided Mercyhurst with five points in the setback, scoring four goals and adding an assist. He also had three steals. Ashton tacked in three scores to bring his Saturday total to seven, while Page found the back of the net twice.

Andy Sekulski finished the day 1-1, stopping 14 shots in the game against Connecticut College and 16 in the contest against Brown.
Mercyhurst ends its three-game tour of Connecticut on Sunday, as the Lakers take on MIT in a 10 a.m. contest.
