ERIE, Pa. - Junior
Alex Moggridge tallied 11 points as the Mercyhurst College men’s water polo team defeated Gannon, 16-11, for the eighth straight time and won its record-setting 10th consecutive game Sunday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Aquatic Center. The Lakers, standing at 11-2 overall and 8-0 in conference play, surpassed the 2006 squad that set the school record at nine straight wins.
Not to overshadow Moggridge, who accumulated his 11 points on seven goals and four assists, but six other players picked up at least two points or more in the record-setting victory. Freshmen Ian Tasman and Adam Borgman and junior Kane Ashton all had four points apiece. Tasman marked two goals and two assists while Borgman and Ashton both had a goal and three helpers. Freshman William Page added three goals to go along with three drawn ejections and first-year driver Luis Solis found the back of the net twice.
Junior Andy Sekulski made a career-high 26 saves in stifling the Golden Knights and improving his season record to 11-2. He also contributed on offense with two assists and on defense with five steals.
Mercyhurst heads out of state for its next two games, facing Connecticut College and Brown on Saturday, Oct. 17 in New London, Conn.
