CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- On the first day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen National Duals, the Mercyhurst College wrestling squad posted a 2-2 record and will advance to Sunday's seventh-place match at 10 a.m. where they will take on Upper Iowa.

In the first round against Chadron St., the Lakers took five of the final seven matches to overcome an 8-6 deficit and win the match, 26-18. Michael Baxter and Lenny Calhoun paced Mercyhurst as they both posted falls at 133 pounds and 149 pounds, respectively. Andy Lamancusa and Josh Shields each added major decisions at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively.

Against the nation's No. 1 Nebraska-Omaha, Payne Lint and Nathan Sharp highlighted a 31-7 loss with their bookend victories. Lint defeated Matt Rein at 125 pounds by a 10-2 count, while at heavyweight, Sharp posted a 4-3 victory. Freshman Baxter and Josh Shields both suffered their first dual meet losses of the season.

After falling to Nebraska-Omaha, the Lakers met Minnesota St.-Moorehead in the second round consolations, winning by a 25-9 margin. Seven out of 10 Mercyhurst grapplers posted victories, highlighted by Sharp's fall (2:53) at heavyweight over Jon Swart.

Seeded eighth, Mercyhurst dropped its next contest against fifth-seeded Central Oklahoma, 31-13, in its final action of the day.
