Mercyhurst Men's Golf Places 11th at Hal Hansen Invitational

Clarion, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College men's golf team vaulted three spots up in the standings to finish 11th in the Hal Hansen Invitational, hosted by Clarion University.
 
The Lakers scored 317 Monday, an improvement of eight strokes over Sunday's first round. Sitting in 14th place after day one, Mercyhurst passed West Chester, Seton Hill and Davis & Elkins Monday to finish 11th out of 18 teams with 642 strokes over two rounds.
 
Mercyhurst was edged out by Gannon by 11 strokes for 10th place in the meet.
 
Ohio Valley won the team title in the meet with 594 strokes, followed by California (Pa.) with 601 and host Clarion with 604 strokes.
 
Clarion's Jared Schmader won medalist honors, shooting 141 over two rounds. He beat J.C. Beecroft of Ohio Valley in a playoff to win the individual title.

The Mercyhurst men's golf team will be in split-squad action this coming week, as part of the team will be competing in an NCAA qualifying tournament in South Haven, Mich. and the remaining golfers will compete at the Allegheny Invitational, with both meets taking place on Sunday and Monday.
