Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's golf team took third place in the 2008 Mercyhurst College Men's Golf Fall Invitational, contested at Downing Golf Course Saturday and Sunday. The Lakers bested Gannon by two strokes, 604-606, in taking third place.
Mercyhurst and Gannon were tied for third after day one, but Mercyhurst scored 300 Sunday to Gannon's 302.
Tyler Bidwell shot a two-under par 70 Sunday, giving him a one-under par 143 for his two-round score. Bidwell placed third out of 32 golfers overall for the tournament. He led the A team, which also included, among others, Pat Jackson, who shot 152 over the two days for 13
th place.
Matt Mahoney scored 154 in tying for 17
th, and
Ben Deets finished tied for 19
th place, finishing out Mercyhurst's team scoring with 155 strokes.
Mike Wayner placed 31
st with 176.
Mercyhurst's B team placed sixth in the meet with 644 strokes, including 319 on Sunday.
Garrett Kimple tied for 19
th place with 155 strokes, followed by
Michael Sito, who shot 78 on Sunday, giving him 162 for the tournament and a 24
th place finish.
Luke Keding ended the meet in 25
th, one stroke behind Sito.
Colin Farabaugh rounded out the B team's scoring with 164 strokes in tying for 26
th place.
Indiana (Pa.) won the team championship with 571 strokes. IUP's Brad Boyle earned medalist honors with a five-under par 139, while his teammate Gavin Smith finished in second with 141 strokes. California (Pa.) placed second with 581 strokes, as Vulcans' golfers Brian Batko, Josh Seelye and Paul Babashanian tied for fourth place with 145 strokes.
Mercyhurst plays in a one-day invitational hosted by Gannon University Monday.
