Box Score ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst fell to Central Connecticut State with a final score of 5–1 on Friday. The Lakers' only run came from a solo home run by Zachary Kourous in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to overcome Central Connecticut State's early lead.

Central Connecticut State took an early lead in the second inning when they scored off an RBI single. The Blue Devils also scored on a sacrifice fly, giving Central Connecticut State a 2–0 lead through two innings.

In the fourth inning,  Central Connecticut State's lead was extended with a solo home run, making it 3–0 through four innings.

In the seventh, the Blue Devils scored an unearned run after reaching on a single and advancing on a balk and an error. Central Connecticut State led 4–0 after seven innings.

The Blue Devils hit another solo home run in the eighth inning to further extend their lead to 5–0.

Mercyhurst got on the board in the ninth inning when Kourous hit a solo home run. The game concluded with Central Connecticut State securing a 5–1 victory over the Green and Blue.

Matthew Delvaux pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, with two strikeouts and one walk. He threw 84 pitches, 52 of them strikes, and gave up one home run. Mitch Harder came in relief for one inning, conceding one run on one hit with one walk, throwing 25 pitches with 18 strikes. Anthony Krause closed the game with two innings, surrendering one earned run on one hit, while striking out two and giving up a home run.

Kourous hit a home run, contributing one run and one RBI. Mike Samarin recorded a double, adding one hit to his performance.

Mercyhurst has an overall record of 13-28 and a NEC record of 12-16. Central Connecticut State holds a record of 16-23 overall and is 12-16 in the NEC.

In their next game, the Lakers will host Central Connecticut State at 1 p.m. ET Saturday at Mercyhurst Baseball Field in Erie, Pennsylvania.
