Lakers Travel to Pittsburgh Tuesday; Host New Haven for Three-Game Series

The Mercyhurst baseball team is set to play four games this week with one game on the road against Pittsburgh, and a three-game series at home against New Haven. The Lakers play the Panthers Tuesday at 3 p.m. They will then play the Chargers at 3 p.m. on Thursday, 1 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Previous Results
The Lakers are 5-16 on the year so far. Last weekend, they hosted Norfolk State, going 1-2 in the series. The Lakers bats were hot in game one, winning 11-2 with 12 hits on the day. Matthew Delvaux earned the win, pitching seven innings and allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out seven batters. 

Graduate student Ranciel Ventura hit .545 over the weekend, including a home run in and four RBI's. Junior Luke Babcock hit .333 over the weekend, including a double.
 
Matchup History
The Lakers are 0-1 all-time against the Panthers. The two faced off last year on April 23, with Pittsburgh winning 16-6.

Mercyhurst meets New Haven for the first time in program history after the Chargers made the jump to Division I and the NEC last April. 
 
Batting Leaders
Senior Zachary Kourous leads the team with a .333 batting average. Last weekend, he went 4-for-12, including three RBIs in game one, and a double in game two. He is also ranked third in the NEC with two triples. Junior Riley Ames is second with a .271 batting average. He picked up three hits this weekend, including an RBI in game one. Ames ranks third in the NEC with 18 stolen bases.
 
Pitching Leaders
Delvaux has been great on the bump for the Lakers. Opposing batters have a .250 batting average against Delvaux, which is second in the NEC.

Sophomore Nate Vargo pitched last Saturday for the Lakers. He pitched eight innings, giving up three runs, three hits and threw six strikeouts. Vargo has 24 strikeouts on the year, which is ninth in the NEC.

Junior Andrew Malec pitched Sunday for the Lakers. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three runs, six hits and threw three strikeouts.
 
A Closer Look: Pittsburgh
  • The Panthers started their season 19-7, including wins against Stanford, Georgia Tech & Louisville.
  • Redshirt Senior Lorenzo Carrier leads the team with a .425 batting average. He also leads the team with 82 total bases and RBIs with 48.
  • Senior AJ Nessler leads the Panthers with three triples.
  • Graduate Student David Leslie leads eligible pitchers with a 4.59 ERA. He also leads the team with 31 strikeouts
 
A Closer Look: New Haven
  • The Chargers started their season 3-16, including wins against Wagner and Le Moyne.
  • Junior Jake Russo leads all batters with a .417 batting average. He also leads the team in hits with 20 and has a team-leading seven doubles.
  • Senior Mason Glickman leads all New Haven pitchers with 16 strikeouts.
