The Mercyhurst baseball team is set to play four games at home this week against Akron and Norfolk State. The Lakers play one game on Tuesday against the Zips at 2 p.m., and a three-game series against the Spartans starting on Friday at 3 p.m. Game two is on Saturday at 2 p.m. and game three is on Sunday at 12 p.m.
 
Previous Results
The Lakers are 4-13 on the year thus far. This past weekend, they traveled to Stonehill to play the Skyhawks, losing all three games in the series. The Lakers scored 21 runs this weekend, generating offense from the likes of a grand slam from freshman Logan Koslin. Junior Zach Black and freshman Dana Williams also hit home runs for Mercyhurst.
 
Matchup History
The Lakers are 0-4 all time against the Zips. In their most recent matchup on May 17, 2025, graduate student Jayden Walker scored the only run of the game with an RBI-triple. Prior to last year, the Lakers faced the Zips for the first time in 2021.
 
The Lakers are 2-1 all time against the Spartans. In their first two matchups, the Lakers won 6-4 in game one, and 9-5 in game two. Grad students Ranciel Ventura and Walker contributed to Lakers' two victories against the Spartans. Ventura hit .273, including six RBI's, two doubles, a sacrifice fly and walk. Walker hit .555, including five walks, four RBI's, a home run and a sacrifice fly. The pair looks to add onto their stat line this upcoming weekend.
 
Batting Leaders
Junior Riley Ames is leading all eligible batters with a .291 batting average. He has two homeruns with nine RBI's, including three doubles. He also leads the NEC in stolen bases with 16. Walker is second with a .273 batting average. He has one homerun, a team leading 15 RBI's and 11 walks. Freshman Dana Williams hit two homeruns last weekend for the Lakers. His five homeruns on the year have him tied for third overall in the NEC.
 
Pitching Leaders
Junior Andrew Malec pitched over the weekend for the Lakers. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Malec also has a 5.40 ERA on the year and has 19 strikeouts.
 
Sophomore Nate Vargo has been one of the key pitchers for the Lakers. He's the only pitcher to have pitch a complete game this season, against Delaware State. He ranks third in NEC with nine walks allowed. He also is sixth in strikeouts with 24. Vargo also ranks ninth in the NEC with 25.2 innings pitched.
 
 
A Closer Look: Akron

• Started their season 10-12, including wins against UMass, Western Michigan and Presbyterian.
• Outfielder Brody Chrisman leads all eligible batters with a .345 batting average. He also leads the team in hits with 29.
• Pitcher Elijah Griffith leads all eligible pitchers with a 2.94 ERA. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 21.

• The Spartans have started their season 7-15, including matchups against Towson, Navy and VMI.
• Two-way player Thomas Ealey leads all eligible batters with a .400 batting average. He also leads the team with 32 hits.
• Outfielder Justin Journette leads the team with 10 homeruns.
• Pitcher Ethan Blakeney leads all eligible pitchers with a 5.40 ERA. He also leads the team with 24 strikeouts.
