Buffalo, N.Y.- The Mercyhurst baseball team fell in their midweek game of the 2025 season in an 8-3 contest to Canisius. The Lakers have lost their last three nonconference games after they were able to take down Youngstown State in their home nonconference game. The Lakers once again got off to quick start and scored first in their ninth straight nonconference matchup, but ultimately, they were unable to hold on for eight time in those nine games.
Â
How It Happened:
The Lakers started hot in the top of the first like they have in nine straight nonconference games.
Chris Juchno kicked things with off with a double to left center. It was his eighth double of the season and 13
th overall extra base hit. Just a few batters later, he was driven in by
Jayden Walker, who hit a double of his own. Walker has been named a Prime Performer by the NEC four times this season, including earlier this afternoon. The Lakers added another run in the bottom of the second as
Casey Smith hit in
Patrick Sullivan.
Â
But in the bottom half of the inning, the Golden Griffins took the lead for the first and final time. Josh Niles gave Canisius the advantage with a three-run homer and Thomas Zwirecki followed it up with a two-run shot of his own to make it 5-2 in the bottom of the third. The top of the sixth inning was next time the Lakers crossed the plate.
Ethan Adams recorded his 22
nd RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly. 5-3 was the closest Mercyhurst would get. In the bottom of the seventh, Eric Weeks added insurance with a three-run triple. The Golden Griffins were able to hold on to that score as they swept the season series with their 8-3 win.

Next Game:
Mercyhurst will return home for the final time this season Friday afternoon. They'll welcome Le Moyne to town for a three-game set. Game one's first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
