Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst took the series over Wagner in another thrilling finish on Sunday. The Lakers scored seven runs in the final three innings of action, including four in the eighth inning, to claim their third NEC series. They now sit at 8-6 at home this season and need just one win in their home finale to have a winning record in Erie in 2025.
Â
How it Happened:
Wagner started the game looking to get on the right track after getting walked off yesterday. The Seahawks scored the first run of the game off a Diego Tavarez RBI double that brought in Lukas Torres. Wagner's batting average leader, Bryce Phelps, then brought in Tavarez with an RBI single to give them an early 2-0 advantage. Despite trailing after three innings, the Lakers and Seahawks were even in the hit category with three. The Seahawks' pitcher, Heitaro Hayashi, was able to leave the tying runs stranded on second and third with a slick play that saw him get 1-3 putout to close the inning.
Â
Over the next two innings of play, both teams recorded just one combined hit. But in the sixth inning, Wagner added the third run of the game after Joseph Mennella struck out and Mercyhurst catcher,
Brodie Collins, sailed a throw trying to get Nicholas Mazzotta out at third. The Lakers finally broke their goose egg in the sixth inning after
Ethan Adams hit an RBI single to draw the game back to 3-1. Immediately after,
Casey Smith reached base on an E4 that saw the tying runs cross the plate. The Seahawks quickly took the lead back in the next inning with a Matt Sutera RBI single. Torres then tacked an insurance run with an RBI single of his own to bring in Sutera.
Â
The Lakers threatened again in the eighth inning.
Landon DiBeradin and
Ranciel Ventura led the inning off with back-to-back singles and were then brought in by Adams with a two RBI double. Adams then came across on another wild pitch to give the Lakers a lead, which was immediately followed up by an
Eric Chorba RBI single to put them up 7-5. The pitching duo of
Anthony Krause and
Nolan Kirsch closed things out for the Lakers as they took their first series in month.

Next Game:
