Mercyhurst Set to Return Home for Weekend Series

4/24/2025 11:00:00 AM

Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst is set to take on Wagner in their second to last home series in the 2025 season. The Lakers are coming off a 16-6 loss at Pitt. They started hot in the matchup, but in the second inning, the Panthers settled in. They'll be looking to get back on the right track as they have just three conference series left.  They'll then head to Toledo for a matchup on Tuesday.

On the Diamond:
The Lakers continue to rely on their upperclassmen leaders. The Lakers are led by three Norwin guys in batting. Eric Chorba, Jayden Walker and Landon DiBeradin have combined for 18 home runs, 73 RBIs and 18 doubles. Chorba leads the way with a .343 batting average, while Walker has the most home runs with nine. Chris Juchno still leads the way on the base pads with 24 total runs and a team-high 17 stolen bases. The Lakers are also led by Jacob Bazala and Aidan Kelly on the mound. Bazala is 5-3 and has a 5.29 ERA. Kelly has been Mercyhurst's No. 1 pitcher and has posted a 2-4 record. He's struck out 53 batters and worked 49.0 innings.

Scouting Wagner:
Wagner is one of the top teams in the NEC this season. They've lost just three conference games to this point. But they have 10-8 record on the road in the 2025 season. The Seahawks offense has been very balanced over the course of the season so far. They have nine players with 20 or more RBIs. Bryce Phelps has led the way in terms of batting average. He's hitting .418 and will likely hit at the top of the lineup against the Lakers. Jake Toporek has been their ace so far. He's started nine games and has a 5-0 record.

Scouting Toledo:
The Rockets are 18-25 this season so far. They have an 8-14 record in nonconference play, but that includes a win over No. 12 Oregon. Caden Konczak has hit eight home runs this season, which leads the team. But they don't have any hitters who have more six home runs otherwise. They also only have three players with more than 20 RBIs. The Lakers will look for their third nonconference win on Tuesday.

Next Game:
Mercyhurst will kick off their three-game series against Wagner tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The game can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
