Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse dropped a tough 14-8 decision to Kent State on Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened
The game started with Kent State asserting their dominance, scoring the first eight goals of the contest. Whitley Easton put Mercyhurst on the board with the Lakers' first goal, but they trailed 8-1 at the end of the first quarter. Kent continued their strong offensive play in the second quarter, scoring five more unanswered goals to stretch their lead. Emma Cimino netted a goal late in the second to give the Lakers some momentum heading into halftime, but they still found themselves trailing 13-2.
The third quarter saw Amanda Bailey start the scoring for the Lakers, but Kent responded with one more goal, bringing the score to 14-3 as the teams headed into the final frame. Mercyhurst showed resilience in the fourth quarter, exploding for five goals in a brief stretch. Easton tallied three goals, while Cimino and Meghan Nasman each added one. Despite the strong finish, the Lakers were unable to overcome the deficit, and the game ended with a 14-8 scoreline in favor of Kent State.
