BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Three Lakers notched hattricks as the Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team closed out their 2026 season at LIU where they fell 17–10 on Saturday. The Lakers end the season at 3-12, 3-6, while LIU improved to 10-6, 7-2.
The Lakers started the first quarter against LIU with
Maggie Allen in goal. After conceding the first goal to LIU's Selia Lyons, the Lakers quickly responded.
Nicole Hetzer equalized at 7:58 with a shot that found the back of the net. However, LIU regained momentum and pulled ahead with several goals, including a late one by Alexa Nuzzi with just 21 seconds left in the quarter. The first quarter concluded with LIU leading Mercyhurst 6–1.
The Lakers found momentum in the second quarter, with
Whitley Easton scoring the first goal at 11:18, narrowing the gap against LIU. Despite a Sharks' response with a goal from Ally Taranto at 6:53, the Lakers continued their offensive push. Hetzer scored at 3:12, and
Emma Cimino added another goal, assisted by Easton, at 1:10. The quarter concluded with Mercyhurst cutting the Sharks' lead to 7–4.
The Lakers made a strong push in the third quarter, with Easton scoring twice in quick succession, both goals coming during player-up situations. Cimino extended Mercyhurst's rally with a player-up goal at 6:38, assisted by
Camryn Trybuskiewicz, narrowing the gap. However, the Sharks responded with three goals, including two from Nuzzi, to maintain their lead. Late in the quarter, Hetzer added her third goal for the Lakers with an assist from Easton, but LIU's Lindsey Lucia secured the final goal of the quarter. The quarter ended with a score of 12–8 in favor of LIU.
In the fourth quarter, Mercyhurst made a late push to narrow the deficit with Cimino scoring at 6:12, assisted by
Maggie Sheehan. Easton quickly added another goal at 5:37, giving the Lakers some momentum. Despite these efforts, LIU's earlier scoring spree, including goals by Julia Trainor and Caitlyn Guilfoil, established a commanding lead. The game concluded with LIU defeating Mercyhurst 17–10.
Cimino tallied three goals from seven shots, with six of those on target, and added a player-up goal in her performance. Easton contributed four goals and two assists, with all six of her shots on target, including two player-up goals.
Cameron Callander secured the defense with four ground balls, while Allen made 15 saves in goal, facing 49 shots.
