Lakers Prepped for Trip to New Jersey

4/16/2025 1:00:00 PM

Erie, Pa.- After the Lakers grabbed their second nonconference win of the season on Tuesday, the Lakers will be looking to turn around their fortune on the road. They'll make their way to Teaneck, NJ. where they'll take on FDU in a three-game series. They'll be looking to climb the conference rankings with just four conference series remaining.

On the Diamond:
Eric Chorba and Jayden Walker continue to lead the charge for Mercyhurst. Chorba is batting .328 and Walker is hitting .305. They've combined for 81 hits to this point, and Walker is on a nine-game hitting streak. They're also first and second on the team in home runs, RBIs and total bases. Walker was named an NEC Prime Performer after his weekend that included six hits and a trio of RBIs. Chris Juchno has also remained electric on the base pads as he's stolen a team-high 17 bases. On the mound, Aidan Kelly and Jacob Bazala have led the way this season. They led the team in strikeouts with 48 and 51, respectfully. The Lakers will look to all five of their senior leaders as they aim to take their first ever series against FDU.

Scouting FDU:
FDU has had a similar season to the Lakers. They've won just eight games this season as we near May. Johnathan Gomez and Travis Stroh have led the Knights at the plate this season. Gomez has hit .305 and 14 of his hits have been extra base hits. They've struggled to hit the long ball this season though. Jimmy Mantuano leads the team in home runs with just four. Jordan Savinon has appeared in 12 games on the mound for FDU and has pitched a team-high 39.2 innings. It's likely that Lakers will square off against him at least once in the series.

Next Game:
The series with FDU will kick off on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. All of the action can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
