Mercyhurst Set for Action in Erie

Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst baseball team is set to get back in action this weekend as they make their way back to Erie for a four-game homestand. They have just 10 home games left, and they've seen success in their seven home games thus far. They have 4-3 record at home and last time home they swept the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
On the Diamond:
At the dish, Senior Eric Chorba continues to lead the way. He has a .352 batting average and 38 total hits. He's knocked five home runs this season, including three last the time the Lakers were home. Senior Jayden Walker continues to dominate as well. Walker has hit six home runs and hit in a team-high 20 RBIs to this point. Senior Chris Juchno has been electric on the pads this season. He's stolen 14 bases in 15 attempts. Senior Jacob Bazala has taken the lead on the mound. He's appeared in 13 games and has posted a 4.97 ERA. He also has a 4-3 record and three of those wins came from the UMES series.
 
Scouting Stonehill:
Stonehill has had a very similar season on the field. They've posted an 8-19 record and seen seven of those wins come in conference action. Last weekend they took their series against FDU, but last time they were on the road they were swept. Grayson Sparr has been the best hitter for them so far. He's hit six home runs and driven a total of 30 RBIs. Jack Thorbahn and Taylor Gaspar have hit a team-high seven home runs. Jimmy Gilleran has led the way on the mound for the Skyhawks. He's posted a 2-3 record and struck out 22 batters. The Lakers will be looking for a big sweep to get back to .500 in conference play.
 
Scouting Youngstown State:
Mercyhurst fell to Youngstown State 15-5 in seven innings earlier this season. Since then, they've gone 4-8. Kyle Fossum remains their best player at the dish with an impressive .432 batting average. He's tallied 51 hits with 27 of those being extra bases hits. He leads the team in home runs with 14 and RBIs with 36. Mercyhurst will aim to shut him down as they look to split the season series.

The Lakers will kick off the weekend tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. against Stonehill. All of the action can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
