Erie, Pa.- After beginning their first ever Division I campaign on an 11-game road trip, Mercyhurst is set to play their first ever Division I home games. The Lakers will welcome Coppin State for a three-game series this weekend before they close out their homestand with a game against Canisius.
Looking to Go Yard:
Mercyhurst comes home to Erie looking to gain some momentum. The Lakers have had a tough start to the season as they return to Pennslyvania with a 1-10 record through their first 11 games of the season. But they've seen some encouraging play they hope to build on. They've been paced by
Eric Chorba on the offensive side of things as he's hit .333 this season so far. He's recorded a team-high 12 hits and is tied with
Chandler Powell for most RBIs with five. He's also tied with
Ethan Adams for the team lead in home runs with two.
Ranciel Ventura is second on the team with nine total hits, including two extra base hits.
Scouting Coppin State:
Coppin State has also had a rough start to the 2025 season. They sit at just 2-8 and have lost their last three games. Indy Anderson has been the best player offensively for them to this point. He's hitting .371 through ten games. He's recorded 13 hits and six RBIs. Daniel Moore is second on the team with 10 hits and nine RBIs. Justin Ritz has been the best pitcher for them so far as he's posted a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings and he has a 1-0 record.
Scouting Canisus:
Canisus is still looking for their first win at the time of press. They sit at 0-6 and before they come to Erie, they have a four-game set with Cincinnati. Bennett Cox has led them on the offensive end with a .417 batting average. He has 10 hits, including four doubles and a home run. They'll be aiming to grab a win as they play nearly as many game in the next five days as they have this season so far.
Next Game:
The Lakers will finally play their first home series. They welcome Coppin State to town tomorrow to begin their three-game series. The first game kicks off at 2:00 p.m. and can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
