Box Score Kent, Oh.- The Lakers finished out their 11-game road trip to start the season with a 18-6 loss to Kent State on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakers sit at 1-10 now and they're slated to return home this weekend as they aim to get their first ever home Division I win.
Â
How it Happened:
Mercyhurst got things going early as
Eric Chorba drove in his fifth RBI of the season on a single. It was the first of three runs in the first inning for the Lakers.
Jayden Walker added a pair of runs when he doubled down the left field line to drive in Joey Trivisonno and Chorba. But Kent State got a couple back in the bottom of the first to make it a 3-2 ball game going into the second. Mercyhurst went down in order in the second inning and Kent State took advantage of that. Jake Casey drove in a run on a double and also crossed the plate to give the Golden Flashes a 4-3 lead.
Â
In the third inning, the Lakers were able to get a pair on base, but
Patrick Sullivan grounded out to close the inning. But the Golden Flashes were able to tack on another five runs in the bottom half. Three runs came on a bases clearing double by Brody Williams to give them a 9-3 lead. The Lakers got two back in the fourth when
Ethan Adams drove in his third run in the last three games on an RBI double.
Ranciel Ventura added the other run as he drove in
Chandler Powell on a fielder's choice. Kent State answered back immediately after Alejandro Covas in a run on a single that saw him advance all the way to third on an E7. He then scored on a wild pitch.
Â
Kent State tacked on three more in the sixth. Hayden Jatczak drove in Casey on a double and then Dom Kibler hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 14-5. In the seventh, the Lakers took one off the deficit after a
Chandler Powell single drove in a run. Ripken Reese drove on deep in the seventh before Jatczak finished off the scoring after he put an exclamation mark on the day with a three-run homer to end the game. Â
