Dover, DE – Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse dominated Delaware State 22-9 in an NEC matchup, securing a comprehensive victory in their latest league matchup.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst came out firing on all cylinders, scoring the first five goals of the game. Whitley Easton led the charge with a hat trick out of the gate, while Meghan Nasman and Emma Cimino each added a goal to give the Lakers an early 5-0 lead. Delaware State responded with a single goal, but Mercyhurst wasn't done yet. Brynn Hall and Emma Cimino each found the back of the net, extending the lead to 7-1. Delaware State scored twice in the final minutes of the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 7-3 as the teams headed into the second.
The second quarter saw Delaware State score the first two goals, cutting the lead to 7-5. Mercyhurst answered with a series of back-and-forth goals, including one from Amanda Bailey and another from Delaware State, before the Lakers went on a five-goal streak. Whitley Easton started it off, followed by goals from Amanda Bailey, Emma Cimino, Ellie Schau, and Marlee Antinora, pushing the lead to 13-7 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Delaware State scored first, making it 13-8, but Mercyhurst quickly regained control. The Lakers went on another dominant five-goal run, with two goals from Meghan Nasman, and one each from Whitley Easton, Emma Cimino, and Hannah Young. This surge made it 18-7 heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw Mercyhurst continue to build on their lead with four more goals. Marlee Antinora, Nicole Hetzer, Whitley Easton, and Camryn Trybuskiewicz all contributed to the effort. Delaware State answered with two goals of their own, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lakers' commanding performance, as Mercyhurst finished with a 22-9 win.
