Lakers Stun SFU with Thrilling 11-10 Comeback Victory

Loretto, PA- Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse pulled off a thrilling 11-10 comeback win over Saint Francis University in a dramatic Northeast Conference showdown.

How it Happened

Saint Francis University struck first, taking the lead with an early goal to start the game. However, Mercyhurst quickly responded as Whitley Easton netted the equalizer, making it 1-1 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, with Saint Francis adding one more goal while Mercyhurst was held scoreless. As a result, the Lakers trailed 2-1 at halftime.

Saint Francis came out strong in the third, scoring the first goal of the half to extend their lead to 3-1. Whitley Easton answered back, bringing Mercyhurst within one at 3-2. However, Saint Francis responded with two more goals to build a 5-2 lead heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Mercyhurst explode offensively, scoring four goals in a row. This started with a goal from Hannah Young to make it 5-3. Emma Cimino then scored to cut the deficit to 5-4. Whitley Easton added two more goals, first tying the game at 5-5, then giving the Lakers a 6-5 lead.

Saint Francis responded to tie the game again, but Mercyhurst wasn't done. The Lakers went on another scoring spree, with Cimino contributing two more goals, Meghan Nasman adding one, and Whitley Easton scoring again to push the lead to 10-6. 

But Saint Francis wasn't finished either, going on a four-goal run to tie the game at 10-10 with a minute and 21 seconds remaining. The tension was palpable, but in the final 24 seconds of the game, Emma Cimino scored the game-winning goal, sealing the 11-10 victory for the Lakers in dramatic fashion. The Lakers now hold a 2-1 record in the NEC. 

Notable Performances

  • Whitley Easton led the way for Mercyhurst, contributing an impressive seven points with five goals and two assists. 

  • Emma Cimino also had a standout performance, totaling five points with four goals and one assist. 

  • Meghan Nasman and Hannah Young each added a goal to the effort.

  • Maggie Sheehan and Marlee Antinora each registered an assist in the game.

  • Goalkeeper AJ Jameson was instrumental in the victory, recording 16 saves to help secure the comeback win.
