Niagara Falls, NY.- The Mercyhurst Baseball team wrapped up their eight game road trip on Tuesday with a 14-9 defeat in Niagara Falls. The road trip spanned four states and saw them go 2-6 while they were on it. They've dropped five in row now.
Â
How it Happened:
Mercyhurst started things off early after they were able to earn three free passes and saw a batter get hit by a pitch. The third walk was issued to
Landon DiBeradin, who earned an RBI and gave Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead. But Jack Dickinson was finally able to get out of the inning with back-to-back strike outs to leave the bases loaded. In the third inning, Niagara took their first lead of the day with a pair of runs. The second run came from a Jacob Brooks solo shot. But
Ray Altmeyer answered right back with a solo shot of his own lead off the fourth. That home run kicked off a four run inning for the Lakers.
Casey Smith and
Chris Juchno recorded RBIs in the inning as well. Mercyhurst added to their lead in the sixth with another four run inning. The first run came off another hit by pitch, with
Chris Juchno on the receiving end this time.
Jayden Walker then grounded out to third to secure another run. The final two RBIs of the frame came from a DiBeradin double that drove in a pair.

Things were looking good for the Lakers up to that point. Then the seventh inning came and saw the Purple Eagles have a 10-run outburst. It featured four walks, six hits and two pitcher changes. But Mercyhurst was unable to get out of trouble as every base runner crossed home plate in the inning. Niagara added a little insurance in the eighth inning with a pair of runs to secure their seven run comeback win.

Next Game:
Mercyhurst will finally return home where they will host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for an NEC showdown. All the action can be caught on the NEC Front Row.
