North Easton, MA – Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse dropped an 18-10 decision to NEC opponent Stonehill College today.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst opened the scoring as Emma Cimino found the back of the net for the first goal of the game. Stonehill responded by tying the game, and then Marlee Antinora gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead. However, Stonehill answered with a run of five consecutive goals, taking a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw Mercyhurst battle back. Cimino scored first to cut the deficit, but Stonehill answered with a goal of their own. The Lakers then exploded with four straight goals, with Amanda Bailey scoring twice and Whitley Easton and Meghan Nasman each adding another. Stonehill responded with a goal to give them the 8-7 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Stonehill regained control, scoring five unanswered goals to push their lead to 13-8. Cimino netted the only goal for Mercyhurst in the quarter, keeping the Lakers within reach as they entered the final frame trailing by five.
The fourth quarter saw the two teams trade goals back and forth. Easton scored twice for Mercyhurst, but Stonehill outpaced the Lakers by a 5-2 margin in the final quarter. The Lakers ultimately fell 18-10.
