Lakers Place Four on All-AHA Teams

Boston, Mass. – The Atlantic Hockey America Conference (AHA) announced their All-Conference selections on Wednesday afternoon, and the Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team placed four players on the All-AHA teams. 

Vanessa Upson was named to the All-AHA First Team.  The Stoney Creek, Ontario native finished an impressive regular season with 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points.  Upson led the Lakers in all three categories and set a new career-high in assists.  She finished second in the AHA in points, and third in assists.  She also finished eighth in the country in face-off wins with 399.  She was named AHA Forward of the Week twice and AHA Forward of the Month once.  This is Upson's second time earning First Team honors. 

Megan McKay was named to the All-AHA Second Team.  The Zionsville, Indiana native finished the regular season with 5 goals and 16 assists for 21 points.  McKay ranked third among all blueliners in assists in the AHA.  She was named AHA Defenseman of the Week twice and AHA Defenseman of the Month once.  She earned an All-Rookie Team Selection her freshman year and now adds a Second Team Selection to her resume.    

Julia Schalin was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team.  The Espoo, Finland native finished an outstanding regular season with 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points.  Schalin finished second on the Lakers in goals, assists, and points.  She led all AHA freshman in assists and points and finished second among freshman in goals.  She was named AHA Rookie of the Week three times and AHA Rookie of the Month twice.      

Magdalena Luggin was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team.  The Vienna, Austria native posted a 7-6-0 record, a .930 save percentage, and a 1.96 goals-against average across 13 starts.  Luggin posted her first career shutout at home against Robert Morris.  She finished the regular season second in the AHA in save pecentage and third in goals against average.  She was named AHA Rookie of the Week once and AHA Goaltender of the Week once. 

The Lakers return to action this Friday when they host Syracuse in the AHA Semifinals.  Puck-drop is set for 3 PM at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
