Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst Women's tennis team took the road today for their second match in two days. The Lakers fell 4-3 to Cleveland State but picked up just one total win in the competition.
Â
How it Happened:
Mercyhurst kicked off the match with doubles action and had to grab just one win to secure the doubles point due Cleveland State only having two doubles pairs.
Kayla Dean and Sara Bertolez dropped the opening match 6-1 to Sima Heren and Tereze Vevere as the Vikings were able to fight and give themselves a chance to take the doubles point. But
Roisin Murphy and
Daria Rogova secured the point for Mercyhurst with a 6-4 win over Jenna Redmile and Filippa Frogner.
Â
In singles, the Vikings didn't play anyone in the No. 5 or No. 6 slots, so the Lakers were given two points by forfeit. Rogova fell for the first time this season in singles action in 1-6, 1-6 loss. Â
Kayla Dean dropped the final match to Heren 6-4(7), 1-6(4), 7-6 as the Vikings were able to clinch a shorthanded win. Murphy and Brown rounded out singles for Mercyhurst as they both also fell in action.
