Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse kicked off their season at home, facing off against Lindenwood. Despite a hard fight, the Lakers were unable to overcome a strong start from the Lions, ultimately falling 17-7, putting them at a 0-1 start.
How it Happened
Lindenwood came out of the gate fast, dominating the first quarter with a 6-0 lead. The Lions added one more goal in the second quarter before Mercyhurst responded with a pair of goals from Marlee Antinora and Meghan Nasman. However, Lindenwood would extend their lead, adding four more goals to make the score 11-2 at halftime.
The Lakers found their footing in the third quarter, with Amanda Bailey and Whitley Easton each scoring a goal. The Lions answered with one goal of their own, pushing the score to 12-4 as the game entered the final frame. Mercyhurst continued to battle in the fourth, with Easton adding two more goals, and Ellie Schau contributing one to bring the Lakers' tally to three in the final quarter. However, Lindenwood responded with five goals of their own, sealing the 17-7 victory.
