Pittsburgh, PA – Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse fell to Duquesne University in a close matchup today. Despite taking an early lead and battling throughout the game, the Lakers ultimately fell short, losing 20-13.
How it Happened
The Lakers came out of the gate strong, quickly scoring the first four goals of the game. Meghan Nasman scored the first two goals for Mercyhurst, giving the Lakers an early lead. Whitley Easton followed with two goals of her own in the first quarter, and both Ellie Schau and Marlee Antinora added one goal apiece, putting the Lakers up 6-3 after the first quarter.
Duquesne answered in the second, outscoring Mercyhurst 7-2 in the quarter to take a 10-8 lead into halftime. Easton netted both of Mercyhurst's goals in the second, keeping the game within reach.
Coming out of the break, the Lakers caught fire once again, scoring four goals in a row in the third quarter. Amanda Bailey got the scoring started with one goal, and then Nasman scored a game-tying goal to make the score 10-10. Emma Cimino followed with back-to-back goals, giving the Lakers a 12-10 lead. However, Duquesne answered with four goals of their own, pushing ahead 14-12 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Lakers fought hard but couldn't stop Duquesne's surge. The Dukes outscored Mercyhurst 6-1 in the final frame, with Antinora scoring the solo goal for the Lakers, ending the game with a 20-13 final score.
