Moon Township, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team earned a 3-3 tie with Robert Morris on Saturday night at Clearview Arena. After rallying from a two-goal deficit, the Lakers secured the win in the shootout.
How It Happened:
Robert Morris struck first at 14:55 of the opening period when George Krotiris capitalized on a power-play goal, assisted by Michael Felsing and Dominic Elliott.
The Lakers responded early in the second period as Dustin Geregach found the back of the net at 8:18, assisted by Brendan Lamb and Trent Sambrook, tying the game at 1-1. However, the Colonials quickly reclaimed the lead with an even-strength goal from Walter Zacher at 9:46 and extended their advantage to 3-1 on a power-play goal by Mitch Deelstra at 13:59.
Mercyhurst mounted a third-period comeback, beginning with Mickey Burns' goal at 8:49, assisted by Ryan Coughlin and Trent Sambrook. Just under two minutes later, Burns struck again at 10:33, this time off assists from Steven Agriogianis and Coughlin, tying the game at 3-3.
After a scoreless overtime period, the game went to a shootout. Steven Agriogianis, Will Margel, and Boris Skalos converted for Mercyhurst, while Michael Chambre stood tall in the crease and helped seal the shootout victory.
