Men’s Hockey Drops AHA Quarterfinal Series to Top-Seeded Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Mercyhurst men's hockey team played game two of their AHA Quarterfinal series with Bentley. Last night, the two teams were tied 3-3 all the way up until triple overtime when Bentley netted a game-winner. Tonight was the complete opposite. The Falcons took an early lead and dominated every aspect of the puck as they won, 6-0. This was Rick Gotkin's 1,310th and final game behind the bench for the Lakers.

The first period began with Mercyhurst (6-28-3) facing early pressure from Bentley (20-11-5), resulting in a goal at 15:26. The Lakers attempted to respond with shots from Lukas Klemm and Sean James, but the Falcon's netminder made key saves. Despite the Laker's efforts, Bentley extended its lead with a goal at 10:44. The Lakers had a power-play opportunity midway through the period following a tripping penalty, but could not convert it into a goal. The period concluded with Bentley leading 2-0.

Mercyhurst faced significant pressure in the second period, with Bentley's offensive efforts leading to numerous missed shots and saves by Salvatore Evola. Despite the Laker's defensive efforts, the Falcons scored twice. They netted an even-strength goal at 11:06, followed by capitalizing on a power-play opportunity at 9:17. The Lakers had a few opportunities, including a power play, but were unable to convert anything into a substantial scoring opportunity. The period concluded with the Lakers trailing 4-0.

The Lakers faced an even more challenging third period as Bentley extended its lead with two goals. They scored at 15:44 and then later at 8:07. Despite Mercyhurst's attempts to shift momentum, including several shots on goal from Christian Kocsis and Ryan Coughlin, Bentley's defense and goaltender held strong. A penalty on Tyler DesRochers further complicated the Lakers' efforts to mount a comeback. This AHA Quarterfinal series ended with Bentley securing a 6-0 victory.
