Lakers Claim OT Victory in Olean

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Men's ACHA team traveled along Route 86 to Olean, N.Y. for a matchup against the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
 
Connor Bridges got the start in net for the Lakers, his 5th of the year.
 
In the 1st period, the Lakers went on the penalty kill at 10:24 for elbowing, which allowed the Bonnies to score on the powerplay at 11:11. The Lakers were able to kill of their 2nd penalty of the period, leaving the score at 1-0 heading into the intermission.
 
With under 2 minutes left in the 2nd period, freshman forward Bowman Klippenstein scored his 5th goal of the year. He was assisted by William Neeld and John Hanlon, their 7th and 2nd assist of the year respectively.
 
11 minutes into the 3rd period, Antonio Fleck scored his 1st ACHA goal of his college career, with his assists coming from Klippenstein and Nick Eberhardt, their 2nd and 3rd assist of the season respectively. The Bonnies were able to quickly answer with a game-tying goal 13 minutes into the period. Both teams would trade penalties, but neither was able to take advantage of their power plays.
 
With just under 2 minutes elapsed in the overtime frame, Klippenstein secured the game-winning goal for the Lakers, his 3rd point of the night. His assist came from fellow freshman Evan Peters, his 1st assist of the year.
 
The Lakers claimed a hard-fought 3-2 overtime victory, with Bridges stopping 37 of his 39 shots faced. This was his 1st win of the season.
 
The Lakers will host CHMA opponents Kent State and Duquesne next at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drops set for Friday, November 21 at 6 PM and Saturday, November 22 at 4 PM respectively.
