MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Women's ACHA team traveled south to the campus of Robert Morris for their first CHE matchup on Saturday. The 2-time defending champion Lakers were looking to make a splash in the league standings early as they faced off against the Colonials.

Victoria Campana got the nod for her 2
nd start of the season.

In the 1
st period, the Colonials would score an early goal just before the 5-minute mark. Thanks to an interference penalty taken by Robert Morris,
Kylie Cushman was able to score her first goal of the season on the power play. Her assists came from
Haylie Petyk, as well as
Olivia Murphy, who earned her first collegiate point. Soon after,
Ellie Schau would net her 2
nd goal of the season in the final seconds of the frame, with
Susan Nelson earning her first collegiate point with an assist.

In the 2
nd period, the Colonials would answer with another goal that would bring the score to 2-2 at 13:38. Schau would then score her 2
nd goal of the game, with another assist coming from Nelson at 15:51.

Thanks to stalwart goaltending and defense, the Lakers were able to hold on to their lead and ultimately won the game 3-2.

Campana stopped 46 of the 48 shots she faced, earning her 1
st win of the new season.

The Lakers will next head to Brockport and Rochester for another pair of league game November 8-9.
