ASTON, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Women's ACHA team traveled to Aston, Pennsylvania for the DVCHC Showcase, which featured matchups against Villanova, Maryland, and Rowan. The Lakers looked to climb the rankings with strong competition on the docket for the weekend.

In game 1 versus Villanova,
Victoria Campana got the start for the Lakers.

In the 1
st period, neither team found the back of the net despite a chance on the power play for both teams.

In the 2
nd period, Villanova scored a goal at 5:28, bringing the score to 1-0. The Lakers were able to kill a late hooking penalty and held off Villanova heading into the 3
rd period.

In the final frame, the Lakers battled throughout the period, with the first goal for the Lakers coming at 12:03.
Marina Evert, her 6
th goal of the season, scored off a quick defensive zone faceoff that turned into a breakaway. She was assisted by
Ellie Schau, her 2
nd of the year.
Haylie Petyk then scored less than 20 seconds later, with the assists coming from Schau and
Alexa Kelley, their 3
rd and 2
nd assist of the season.

The Lakers would then go on to defeat Villanova 2-1 for the first time in program history.

Campana stopped 61 of her 62 shots faced, earning her 3
rd win of the season.

The Lakers then focused on the Maryland Terrapins the following afternoon.

Katie Spindel got the nod for the net in this game, her 3
rd start of the year.

In the 1
st period, Schau scored her 7
th goal of the season early in the period, with her assist coming from Evert, her 3
rd. Maryland then would answer at 10:06, leveling the game at 1-1. The Lakers would quickly answer with a 2
nd goal coming from Schau, her 8
th, which was assisted by Petyk, her 6
th of the season. A little over a minute later, Evert scored her 7
th of the season and was assisted by Schau and Petyk, their 4
th and 7
th of the season. At 13:54, Schau completed her hat trick for her 9
th goal of the season with her assist coming from
Susan Nelson, her 3
rd of the year. The Lakers dominated the period with a 4-1 lead heading into the 2
nd period.

In the 2
nd frame, Petyk scored an early goal for her 2
nd of the season and was assisted by Schau, her 5
th. At the 2-minute mark, Schau scored her 4
th goal of the game for her 10
th on the campaign. Maryland was soon assessed a bench minor, which opened up the opportunity for the Laker power play unit to add to the score. Schau scored her 5
th goal of the game on the power play at 7:31, with assists coming from Petyk and
Kylie Cushman. At 16:47,
Alexa Kelley scored her 3
rd goal of the season unassisted. Maryland was finally able to answer with a goal a minute later and left the score at 8-2 heading into the break.

rd period, the Lakers went on the power play early in the period. This opened up the opportunity for
Ava Whitling to find the back of the net for her 2
nd goal of the season, where she was assisted by Cushman and Petyk at 3:01. At 7:14, Evert scored her 2
nd goal of the game unassisted and then completed her hat trick at 9:08 with a short-handed goal. She was assisted by Cushman. Maryland answered with their final goal of the game at 13:14, and this gave Petyk the opportunity to score her 3
rd goal of the season at 13:30 with the assist coming from Kelley, her 3
rd.

The Lakers would ultimately win 12-3, solidifying a winning record for the weekend.

The Lakers then looked to defeat Rowan again during their Sunday morning matchup.

Braidee Blackburn got the start for the Lakers, her 1
st of her college career.

st, both teams were unable to find the back of the net, but battled hard throughout.

nd period, Rowan found themselves in the penalty box early, but the Lakers were unable to capitalize and score. Rowan was then able to score a pair of goals at 6:16 and 17:14 while both teams traded penalties during that stretch. At 18:14, Evert scored her 10
th goal of the season, with her assists coming from Schau and Petyk, their 6
th and 10
th of the season.

The Lakers would eventually fall 4-1 in a hard-fought battle against Rowan.
