Men's ACHA Drops Road Matchups to Cincinnati

ERIE, Pa – The Mercyhurst ACHA Men's Hockey team traveled to Cincinnati Wednesday and Thursday for a brief two game road trip before heading into fall break.
 
For the first game of the series, rookie Mike Mankowski got the nod to start the game in net for the Lakers. The Bearcats quickly scored three goals by the 12-minute mark, where Henry Hunt then came into the game in relief for Mankowski. A little over eight minutes into the period, freshman James Cameron scored his first goal of the season with the assist coming from William Neeld, his second of the year. Cincinnati would go on to score two more goals before the conclusion of the period.
 
In the second period, the Lakers were unable to put the puck in the net despite logging nine shots on goal. Cincinnati would go on to score a pair of late goals, logging 19 shots for the period.
 
In the third period, the Bearcats scored a power play goal with under five minutes left to go in the period, leaving the score at 8-1. Captain Cameron Glance would score a power play goal at 17:07, logging his first goal of the year, as well as Nathan Chung's 4th assist. The Lakers would inevitably drop the contest 8-2.
 
Mankowski would finish with 12 saves on 17 shots. Hunt finished with 40 saves on 43 shots.
 
In the second game of the series, rookie Henry Hunt would start in net for the Lakers, inevitably facing 38 shots throughout the game.
 
There was no scoring from either team in the opening period, but Cincinnati would find themselves in the penalty box for a slashing penalty at 10:58.
 
In the second period, the Bearcats scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart by the 10-minute mark. Cincinnati would head to the penalty box at 14:01, which opened the scoring for the Lakers. Bowman Klippenstein scored his 4th goal of the year thanks to a feed from Kaden Bolter, his first assist of the season. The Lakers would soon head to the penalty box at 17:24 and Cincinnati would respond with a power play goal of their own, leaving the score at 3-1 entering the third period.
 
The Bearcats would score just before the 10-minute mark in the third period, but Hunt stood strong as he faced 14 shots in the period, the most he faced all game. Riordan Sjovold responded with his own goal at 15:42, but the Lakers would be unable to net another response before the final buzzer.
 
Hunt finished the game with 34 saves on 38 shots.
 
The Lakers will next host Oakland Friday, October 17 at 6PM at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
