Niagara Falls, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team fell 6-3 to the Niagara Purple Eagles in an Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) contest on Saturday evening. Despite a hat trick from Steven Agriogianis, the Lakers were unable to contain Niagara's high-powered offense.
How It Happened:
Niagara started strong, scoring three goals in the first period. Glebs Prohorenkovs opened the scoring on the power play at 5:12, followed by Trevor Hoskin's even-strength goal at 12:58. Noah Hackett added a late power-play goal with 0.9 seconds remaining to give the Purple Eagles a 3-0 lead heading into the second period.
The Lakers battled back in the second, with Agriogianis netting his first power-play goal of the night at 17:00, assisted by Riley Fitzgerald and Trent Sambrook. Niagara extended their lead to 5-1 after goals by Jay Ahearn and Tyler Wallace, the latter a shorthanded effort at 18:38. Agriogianis struck again just before the end of the period with another power-play goal at 19:15, assisted by Dominik Bartecko and Dustin Geregach.
In the third period, Agriogianis completed his hat trick on the power play at 10:26, with assists from Fitzgerald and Bartecko, cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, Niagara sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Wallace at 18:54.
