Lakers Make it Five in a Row With Win Over Lindenwood

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over the Lindenwood Lions on Friday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers secured their fifth straight win, improving their record to 12-11-1 overall and 7-4-0 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play. 

How It Happened: 

After a scoreless first period, Mercyhurst took control in the second. Marielle Parks opened the scoring at 2:53, burying a shot off assists from Jade Maisonneuve and Regina Metzler. The Lakers extended their lead to 2-0 at 11:36, when Sofia Nuutinen netted her eighth goal of the season, assisted by Mary Sweetapple and Thea Johansson

The Lakers maintained their momentum into the third period, as Nuutinen struck again at 6:59 to make it 3-0, with Johansson picking up her second assist of the game. Lindenwood avoided the shutout with a late goal by Zsofia Pazmandi at 18:49, but Mercyhurst held firm to secure the victory. 

Notable Performances: 

  • Sofia Nuutinen scored twice, bringing her season total to nine goals. 

  • Marielle Parks recorded her fourth goal of the season, giving the Lakers an early edge. 

  • Thea Johansson contributed two assists, continuing her strong playmaking performance. 

Special Teams: 

The Lakers went 0-for-2 on the power play but limited Lindenwood to 0-for-1 on their lone opportunity, showcasing disciplined defense. 

Up Next: 

Mercyhurst (12-11-1, 7-4-0 CHA) will look to sweep the weekend series against Lindenwood (3-18-2, 2-8-1 CHA) tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is set for 12 PM at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
