Lakers Set For Showdown with Youngstown State

Youngstown, OH. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team continues their season on the road as they prepare to face the Youngstown State Penguins on Saturday. The match is set to begin at 6:00 PM at the Beeghly Center, where the Lakers will be looking to secure their second win of the season. 

Laker Outlook 

Mercyhurst comes into the match with a 1-8 overall record, looking to bounce back from a series of tough losses. Despite the challenges, key players have emerged as standouts this season. Paige Miller leads the Lakers with 75 kills, averaging 2.78 kills per set. Alia Mastromatteo has been the team's playmaker, leading in assists with 94, while Kelsie Gaiter-Davis holds the defensive line with 95 digs. Kaitlin Murphy has been a strong presence at the net, leading the team in blocks with 17 total. 

A Look at Youngstown State 

Youngstown State comes into the matchup with a 5-6 overall record. The Penguins are coming off a dominant 3-0 win over Kent State, where they showcased their strong offensive capabilities. Abbie Householder has been the standout performer for the Penguins, leading the team with 148 kills and an impressive .203 hitting percentage. She is supported by setter Isabel Schaefbauer, who averages 9.10 assists per set. 

Defensively, the Penguins have been solid, averaging 17.3 digs per set, with Nyia Setla leading the way with 176 total digs. Additionally, Youngstown State's blocking game has been strong, averaging 1.8 blocks per set, with Gabriela Machin and Kelsey Cooper contributing key blocks.
