Binghamton, NY.- The Mercyhurst Women's tennis team had a strong showing as they competed in their first ever NEC fall tournament. The highlight of the tournament for the Lakers was when the Senior duo of Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy won the doubles championship.

How it Happened
Dean saw a lot of success in her first Division I tournament, as she made it all the way to the finals in Flight A of singles action. She had a trio of wins, before falling 7-5, 6-3 to FDU's Namie Isago. Dean continued that success when she paired with Murphy. The duo ran through their competition in Flight A with a pair of 6-0 wins and a 6-4 win to advance to the finals. In the finals they faced Freshman Dasha Chichkina and Sophomore Diana Zuba of Saint Francis. The pair pulled out a 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 win. Sophomore Daria Rogova also had an impressive outing. Rogova won Flight B in singles competition and cruised in the finals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kelly Dowouna of Saint Francis. Senior Sara Bertolez Puente picked up a win in doubles action with Rogova. Kiersten Brown had one win in Flight D of singles action with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 over Samantha Jaros of Binghamton.

As things stand, Dean would be considered the second best player in singles in the NEC. Murphy and Dean would also be considered the best doubles player in the conference.
