Lakers play to a draw against LIU

Mercyhurst Ties LIU in NEC Opener

Box Score Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst welcomed Long Island to town for their NEC opener in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw. The game served as the Lakers first ever NEC game.
 
How it Happened
Both teams looked to find their footing for the first 14 minutes of action. Ultimately, LIU broke through first when Stephanie Schubert beat Graduate Student Chelsea Radicia for the first goal of the game. The Lakers knotted things up at one after Camille Bultel corralled a deflected ball and beat LIU goalkeeper Keely Thomas on the high right side of the net. The Lakers had the edge in shots in the first half six to three.
 
 Eight minutes into the second half, Graduate Student Teagan Mehalko scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Maddie Sievering to give the Lakers the lead. Just 12 minutes later, Izzy Stein evened things up. After the Sharks scored, there was a total of five yellow cards given out. Sophia Paffrath, Aliya Couillard, Gina Proviano and Morgan Sherrill were each dished a yellow for LIU. Sievering was given the yellow for the Lakers.
 
Highlights
Bultel's goal woke up the Laker offense, as they were dominate on the offensive end throughout a majority of the game. The Lakers had seven shots on goal with Bultel and Emily Mijares accounting for two each. Mehalko scored her first goal of the season as the Lakers continue to get more contributors on offense. They'll look to keep it up as they aim to grab their first NEC win on Sunday at Le Moyne.
 
Next Game
The Lakers return to the road as they'll make the trip to Syracuse to face Le Moyne in another NEC matchup. The action kicks off at 3:00 p.m.
