9/18/2024 10:00:00 AM

Erie, Pa.- Mercyhurst Women's Soccer is aiming to get their first win as they enter their first season of NEC play. The Lakers will welcome LIU to town on Thursday before traveling to Le Moyne on Sunday.

Looking to Build:
The Lakers offense finally broke through on Sunday when they returned to Saxon Stadium for their home opener. The Lakers scored two goals in a tie with Morehead State. Graduate Student Emily Mijares and Graduate Student Chloe Kalina accounted for the goals, and the Lakers held their first lead of the season. They'll look to build off of their performance and get not only their first Division I win, but their first NEC win.

Lakers Leaders:
Five players have scored one goal for the Lakers thus far. Madison Sievering leads the Lakers with nine shots but hasn't scored a goal yet. Graduate Student Alyssa Poleski leads Mercyhurst with 631 minutes played this season. Graduate Student Karah Van Horn is second with 501 minutes on the pitch. Both have started all eight games to this point. Graduate Student Chelsea Radicia leads the Lakers in goal with a staggering 51 saves.

Scouting LIU:
LIU has seen a tough start to their 2024 season. The Sharks are off to a 1-5 record with their lone win coming over Dominican University of New York. Senior Gina Proviano has been their leader on offense with three goals. Graduate Student Jane Bossler and Sophomore Stephanie Schubert have accounted for the Sharks other two goals. With Radicia in net, the Lakers hope to have a strong defensive day against the Sharks attack.

Scouting Le Moyne:
Much like the Lakers and Sharks, the Dolphins have also seen a slow start to the season. The Dolphins will enter this week with a 1-7 record through eight games. Senior Danielle Casey leads Le Moyne with two goals and an assist on the offensive end. Freshman Logan Cookinham and Freshman Sara Ullman have scored the Dolphins other two goals on the season. The Lakers will look to capitalize against two offenses that haven't been able to get things going this season yet.

Next Game:
Mercyhurst and LIU kick off on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Saxon Stadium. The action can all be caught on NEC Front Row.
