Niagara Falls, NY – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team faced off against Niagara University on Thursday night, falling in three hard-fought sets at the Gallagher Center. The Lakers put up a competitive effort but ultimately came up short, losing 13-25, 19-25, and 23-25.
How It Happened
In the first set, Mercyhurst struggled to gain momentum early as Niagara jumped to a commanding lead, eventually securing a 25-13 win. Abby Miller tallied three kills, hitting .200 in the opening set, but the Lakers were unable to overcome Niagara's strong start.
The second set saw a more competitive effort from the Lakers, as they managed to keep the score tight with multiple ties and lead changes. Paige Miller and Jessica Wilson each added key kills, but despite their efforts, the Lakers fell 19-25.
Mercyhurst showed resilience in the third set, keeping pace with Niagara through a series of exciting rallies. The set featured ten ties and three lead changes. Kaitlin Murphy contributed five kills with an impressive .278 hitting percentage, while Andrea Zaric and Wilson provided solid support at the net. The Lakers battled to the very end but narrowly lost the set, 23-25, as Niagara completed the sweep.
