Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Field Hockey played Saint Francis University today for the second time and fell by a score of 1-3. 

How it Happened

Mercyhurst's battle against the Red Flash picked up right back where it left off on Friday with a tough fight. The Lakers had six saves in the first quarter but Saint Francis ended up scoring, making the score 0-1 going into the second. The second quarter brought lots of action, as Saint Francis scored another goal, making the score 0-2. This time, Mercyhurst responded and scored a goal, narrowing the score to 1-2. This was Mercyhurst's first goal of the season and their first goal in the new Division I era. The electric goal was scored by sophomore Rachel Kosowski, which was the fourth goal of her career. This gave the Lakers confidence as they headed into the half only down by one. 

In the third quarter, Saint Francis scored one more goal and Mercyhurst had four saves. The score was 1-3 going into the final quarter of the game. The Lakers had an excellent defensive fourth quarter, as they racked up 12 vital saves and held the Red Flash scoreless, making the final score 1-3. Along with her goal, Rachel Kosowski also had another shot on goal. Junior Emerson Polkowski and freshman Delaney Lentz each had one defensive save and goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau totaled 18 saves on the day.
