5/3/2024 2:29:00 PM

Bloomsburg, Pa. - Mercyhurst men's tennis went on the road for the PSAC Tournament Friday morning, seeing the Marauders in the the semifinals. The Lakers did all they could to try and come away with a win against their counterpart, but were unable to do so in the end, falling 4-2.

How it Happened

Doubles play went the way Millersville was hoping with the team able to take the first two contests. Mercyhurst fought hard in the pair of matchups, but the Marauders were able to do enough to claim a 6-3 win at number three before a 6-4 final at the top spot to give them a 1-0 lead.

Millersville quickly added onto their advantage with the opening victory of singles play, a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number one, to make it 2-0. The Lakers did not allow themselves to fall behind any further, though, as back-to-back wins helped the team tie things up. The first came courtesy of Colm Schultz who played as Mercyhurst's number four. Schultz dominated in his win as he was able to finish out on top in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. He was followed by Ben Davis at the three spot who grabbed a convincing win of his own, 6-4, 6-3.

Just a few minutes after the Lakers managed to tie things up Millersville reclaimed their lead. It was a win at the second spot that helped them take a 3-2 advantage as a 6-2, 7-5 final was the end result. It all came down to the final two slots with Mykhailo Polishchuck and Sviatoslav Koliadynski battling to keep the Lakers alive. Both saw their bouts go to three sets with Polishchuck's being the deciding contest with the Mercyhurst number five winning the first canto 6-4 before falling in the second 6-2 and then finding himself on the wrong side of the scorecard in the third by the same score to end the match.
