Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Slippery Rock for a PSAC matchup. Battling through the elements, the Lakers and the Rock were locked in a battle that ended in an 8-7 overtime win for the Rock.
How it Happened
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Ellie Schau got the Lakers on the board late in the first quarter.
Slippery Rock got a goal early in the second quarter to make it 3-1. Maggie Sheehan found Emma Cimino for a goal just seconds later. Slippery Rock got two more goals before halftime to make it 5-2.
The Lakers opened the third quarter with two goals, one from Emma Cimino and one from Whitley Easton. The Lakers had gotten to within one. After Slippery Rock made it 6-4, Ellie Schau notched her second of the game with 22 seconds left in the third quarter, making it 6-5.
Emma Cimino and Whitley Easton both scored goals in the fourth quarter. Cimino's goal tied it at six and Easton's tied it at seven. Easton's goal with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter sent the game to overtime.
Slippery Rock scored the game-winner with 1:18 left in overtime, taking the game 8-7.
