Erie, Pa. - Women's tennis played a conference mid-week matchup with Clarion Wednesday afternoon, celebrating this year's senior class with a win. The Lakers picked up their third sweep in a row and tenth overall on the year in their 7-0 victory to move to 15-5 on the year.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst wasted no time jumping out in front as they grabbed the first point in doubles play. It was Daria Rogova and Sara Bertolez Puente who got things started out of the two spot with the pair earning a 6-0 win while Kiersten Brown and Valentine Budin followed with a sweep of their own to clinch the first point. The final tandem to finish was the top duo of Kayla Deana and Roisin Murphy who gave up just one point in the 6-1 win.
Singles play was more of the same as the Lakers were unwilling to concede anything with four of the bouts ending in 6-0, 6-0 wins for Mercyhurst. Each of the teams first four contests ended in flawless wins as Bertolez Puente, Rogova, Murphy, and Budin were in top form with Murphy's win clinching the team victory. Dean and Brown were not far off of their teammate's performances with the pairing both recording 6-0, 6-1 wins with Dean's effort at the top spot rounding out the day in one of the team's more convincing wins.
