Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse team played host to IUP for the second time this season. A late third quarter push wasn't enough as IUP held off the Lakers for a 19-9 win.
How it Happened
The Lakers took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Whitley Easton and Gabby McGinn. IUP came back with three unanswered goals to take the lead. Whitley Easton tied it at three before IUP took a 4-3 lead with 34 seconds left in the first quarter.
IUP started the second quarter on a 7-0 run before Whitley Easton ended that run with her third goal of the game. IUP added two more goals, taking a 13-4 lead into halftime.
After IUP opened the third quarter scoring, the Lakers went on a 4-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter. Whitley Easton, Emma Cimino, and Hannah Young all netted goals during that run.
A 5-0 run by IUP made it 19-8 late in the fourth quarter. Ellie Schau found the back of the net late in the game.

The Lakers will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Edinboro for their second meeting of the season. The Lakers came away with a 15-8 win earlier this month. The start time for the game is set for 4 PM in Edinboro.
