Lakers Ready for New Week

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst men's and women's tennis gears up for the middle of April with the women set to compete in three matches as they go on the road to see Slippery Rock on Tuesday, April 16th, followed by Bloomsburg on the 19th and Kutztown on the 20th. The men join the women for the weekend set against both the Huskies and Golden Bears.

Where They Stand

The men currently sit in third in the PSAC standings with an overall record of 11-4 who going 3-1 in conference play to this point. Their lone loss against PSAC competition was to Edinboro who sits atop the conference at 4-0 while Bloomsburg follows at 2-0. The women are tied for second in the PSAC West with their mark of 2-1 being good enough to tie Slippery Rock. Just in front of the pair is IUP who is still perfect in conference play, 5-0.

Scouting Slippery Rock

The Rock are 9-6 on the season to this point with a record of 2-1 in conference play which is good enough to tie the Lakers for second in the PSAC West standing. Slippery Rock has won each of their last three matches and have done so in dominant fashion with a pair of sweeps in that time while adding a 6-1 win over West Chester last time out. The team has been tough to beat on the home courts, owning a 4-0 record when at home.

Scouting the Huskies

Bloomsburg's men's team is 5-5 on the year while going 2-0 in the conference. The team has played even all year long, going 3-3 at home while being 2-2 in road contests. With that, they have gone 2-2 in their last four matches and hope to find themselves above the .500 mark at the end of their matchup with the Lakers. The women have fared a bit better with an overall mark of 9-6 to go along with their 2-1 in-conference record. The Huskies have been on a run of late, winning four of their last five matches withe their only loss in that stretch coming at the hands of West Chester, 4-3 on the road.

Scouting Kutztown

The men are 4-6 to start the new week while being .500 in the PSAC (1-1). The team is set to play both Bloomsburg and Edinboro before their matchup with the Lakers, hoping to reach .500 before their weekend finale. Kutztown has won only two of their last five matches with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the District of Columbia their last time out after a 5-2 loss to Millersville on the 6th of April. The Golden Bear's women's team is 6-6 as of now with a 3-1 record in the PSAC. They have fared well at home with just two losses to their ledger on their home court. They have fallen on slightly harder times here of late with only one win in their last four tries with the team getting swept twice in that time including a 7-0 final against the District of Columbia last time out.

What's Next

The men wrap up the regular season portion of their schedule on Sunday, April 28th, as they host Charleston. The women have a couple more matches to their schedule as they host Clarion on the 24th for their senior day before going to California on the 27th to take on the Vulcans. They then, like the men, round out the regular season with Charleston at 1:00 p.m.
