Cherry Hill, NJ - After competition was canceled yesterday due to inclement weather, Mercyhurst men's and women's rowing got out on the water for the Knecht Cup Sunday, coming away with some strong showings.
How it Happened
The men's novice fours were first in the water with the team coming away with a time of 8:06.50 in their heat, finishing in third behind Maryland's A team while Connecticut's A team took first with a time of 7:49.96. They were followed by the men's varsity eights who ended up claiming the top spot in their first race of the day. The Laker started off in lane five and ended up beating out four other teams with a time of 6:06.18. They then got back in the water for their second race of the fame in which they came in fourth with a time of 6.10.90, coming in behind Colgate, Iona, and Fairfield.
Women's club fours were up next, getting in the water just after noon with the team coming in fifth. The Lakers finished with a time of 8:43.48 while Central Oklahoma claimed the top spot in the heat with Embry-Riddle and Seattle Pacific to follow to round out the top three. The women's club eights were the fourth team in the water for the Lakers with them putting together a strong day, coming in second in their race. They finished behind only Central Oklahoma with UCO posting a time of 6:59.67 with the Lakers came in at 7:05.98.Â
The men's varsity eights rounded out the day for the Lakers in a race just prior to 3:00 p.m. with the team coming in fifth out of six boats in their contest. The Lakers came away with a time of 6:16.88 while LaSalle finished in first with Trinity and Emory-Riddle rounding out the top three.
Next Race
Mercyhurst will be back in action next weekend as the team heads south. The Lakers make the the trip to Oak Ridge, Tn. for the SIRAs which begin on Saturday, April 20th, with competition concluding the following day.
