Buffalo, NY. - The Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse team traveled to D'Youville for a matchup with the Saints. The Lakers held the lead through three quarters but couldn't hold it as they fell to the Saints 14-9.
How it Happened
The Lakers scored three times in the first quarter, all three coming from someone different. Amanda Bailey got the scoring started with the opening goal. Emma Cimino and Meghan Nasman scored the other two Laker goals.
After not much action through the first half of the second quarter, Maggie Sheehan extended the Lakers lead to 4-0. The Saints got on the board shortly after, making it 4-1. Whitley Easton found the back of the net to make it 5-1. The Saints scored two more times in the second quarter to go into the half down two goals.
Amanda Bailey opened the third quarter scoring with her second goal of the game. The Saints tied the game at six with three straight goals. In the final seconds of the third quarter, Emma Cimino scored to give the Lakers the lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Saints came out flying in the fourth quarter, scoring eight goals to take a commanding lead. The Lakers tried to fight back into the game with another goal from Emma Cimino and a first career goal from Hannah Young, but it was enough to climb back into the game.
