Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst men's and women's tennis gets away from the Pennsylvania weather and heads south for a pair of matches this upcoming wee. The team begins their time on the Atlantic coast on Wednesday, March 6th, when they take on John Carroll in Hilton Head Island, S.C. before a battle with Assumption to follow on the 8th.

A Look Back

Both the men and the women have had the kind of seasons they have wanted up to this point in the year. The men are 5-1 with wins in each of their last five matches including one sweep of Daemen in that time, beginning a strong run of play this past week. The women have had a similar story with a 6-1 record to this point, winning each of their last six which includes three sweeps including back-to-back breaking out of the brooms against West Virginia State University and Salem.

Scouting John Carroll

The men are 0-3 to this point in the season with their last loss coming at the hands of Walsh in a matchup in which they were swept. The team finished 6-11 last year and hope to take a step forward this time around with an older group at the helm. The women are also 0-3 in the 2023-24 campaign and have been swept in each of their last two matches, falling to both Ashland and Walsh. After a year in which they went 6-12, they too look to make strides in the right direction.

Scouting Assumption

The Greyhound's men's team is 4-6 at this point in the year with losses in each of their last four matches, hoping to get back on the right track. Before their recent rough stretch, the team had won three of their last four with all of those wins coming via sweeps. The women are 13-4 as of right now with each of those decisions coming in the fall. By the time they take on the Lakers on the 8th, they will have three spring competitions under their belt, hoping to get the second half of their season started with a bang.

Next Match

When the Lakers return from their time in the Carolinas, they will head for St. Bonaventure to see the Bonnies on Wednesday, March 13th, before a matchup with Charleston on the 17th inside the Westwood Racquet Club at 3:00 p.m.
