Erie, Pa. - On National Football Signing Day, the Mercyhurst football program releases their newest batch of Lakers. The team welcomes 24 new student-athletes to the brotherhood ahead of the 2024 season, hoping each can come and make a name for themselves on the gridiron. Of those 24 recruits, Mercyhurst adds two transfers with Ernest Davis and Alex Vazquez coming in with some experience under their belt while the other 22 are set to compete collegiately for the first time. The class proved to be a balanced one as 11 of the newest Lakers come in on offense with 10 set to play on the defensive side of the ball while the team also welcome two athletes and one special teams specialist.
"I can't thank my coaches enough for all the hard work and dedication they put into this class especially while going through some coaching transition," said Head Coach Ryan Riemedio about his incoming talent.
Mercyhurst looked to find the majority of their talent in their own back yard and did so as 12 of the newcomers hail from either Pennsylvania or Ohio with the buckeye state having the most of any state with seven. The team also welcomes student-athletes from the states of Texas, Florida, D.C., Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, California, and North Carolina. The Lakers also went beyond their border to find talent as they welcome Malte Feil who is a native of Hamburg, Germany, showing the growth of the sport across the globe.
Riemedio continued, "When you have 22 seniors and grad students that want to come back to the C.U.L.T.U.R.E., as a staff we had the ability to hand pick the recruits we are announcing today," showing how he can use his veteran leadership to imprint on his new talent.
