Men's Lacrosse Secures Win in Home Opener

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team hosted Wilmington in their home opener this afternoon. After going down 1-0 early, the Lakers never trailed afterwards, running away with a 15-10 win. Head Coach Trey Keeley gets his first win at the helm of the Lakers.  

How it Happened 

The Wildcats got out to an early 1-0 lead, but it did not take the Lakers long to respond as Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre got the Lakers on the board. The Lakers proceeded to score two more times in the first quarter, one by Colin Tardif and the other by Ethan Landymore. The Lakers led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. 

The Lakers outscored the Wildcats 3-2 in the second quarter. Ethan Landymore scored back-to-back goals to start the quarter. The Wildcats got one back a few minutes later, but the Lakers responded with a goal from Chase Petschke. The Wildcats got one more goal before halftime to bring the score a bit closer. At halftime, the Lakers led 6-3.  

The third quarter scoring was opened with a goal by the Wildcats.  The Lakers proceeded to go on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 10-4. Both sides traded goals for the remainder of the third quarter. The Lakers led 11-6.  

Both sides scored four times in the fourth quarter. The Lakers got goals from Ethan Landymore, Chase Petschke, Casey Scott, and Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre.    

Highlights 

Chase Petscke scored four times and added an assist. 

Ethan Landymore scored five times. 

Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre scored three times. 

Casey Scott, Colin Tardiff, and David Fiorini all scored once. Tardiff also added four assists to his stat line.  

The Lakers were 10/14 on clears and grabbed 30 ground balls in the win.   

Next Up 

The Laker will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Frostburg State for a non-conference matchup. Start time for that game is set for 3 PM.
